Collision

I just heard one of our employees was in an accident!

Don't worry, I've revoked his keys.

Isn't it a little late for that?

It just jumped out in front of me! I didn't have time to stop or swerve!

No, it was a SHA-1 collision.

SHA-1 is a cryptographic hash function that was widely used for security and data integrity applications until it became economically feasible to generate collisions, or multiple sources which produce the same hash. Such calculations require quite a lot of computing power, but that power is today readily available for anyone who has the money to pay for enough virtual machines in AWS.

The actual SHA-1 hash of the basic CEO frog SVG is what you see on the ground there in the third frame. It is partially obscured by the tire and small fire, but it is presumably the SHA-1 involved in the collision. I hope that's covered by the frog's insurance.
