When I was a child, I always wondered why The Fourth of July was the only holiday named by its date. Why not call Halloween the 31st of October? Why is it Christmas and not The 25th of December? Eventually, when I was around 20 or so, I realized that the holiday is actually called Independence Day. And this year, with Independence Day falling on a Saturday, many of us get a work holiday on Friday the 3rd. This year, the 4th is on the 3rd.
The 3rd is its own holiday here, as my daughter Gladrielle celebrates her birthday that day. Happy Birthday Little G!
