... a Daemon Process!

This one might be too scary, especially if you are a sysadmin.

But despite their similar spelling, a daemon and a demon aren't really the same thing. A daemon process in computing is a background job that is generally helpful. The word comes from the Greek mythology as a descriptor for a supernatural being that works in the background with no particularly evil intentions. The term entered computing from the famous Maxwell's daemon thought experiment in which an imaginary being sorts molecules in the background in violation of the second law of thermodynamics.
